Course Success Series: Building Variety into Course Material

October 20, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Register

The readings, articles, videos and other media you share with your students are part of the ecosystem that makes up an engaging and inclusive learning environment. Course materials promote learning most effectively when they each support one another, provide multiple ways for students to learn through different formats (e.g., written, audio, visual), and represent a diversity of perspectives. This session will empower instructors to explore types of instructional content that can be utilized to add variety and engage learners. Review these resources prior to the session: https://coursesuccess.wisc.edu/5-materials-media5-1/.

Outcomes:

  1. Conceptualize how to select and organize course materials in ways that prioritize multiple modes of engagement, ease of student access, and applicability to students’ lives outside of the classroom.
  2. Explore course content accessible to you and your students with the support of the UW-Madison libraries and repositories of peer-reviewed open educational resources.
  3. Identify resources that allow instructors to adapt existing materials to their unique course contexts by incorporating additional information or interactive elements into the original source material.
  4. Reflect on and apply lessons learned from remote instruction.
