Cori Schmidtbauer has worked as an instructional designer since 2016 and joined UW–Madison in 2020. In her course design, she emphasizes incorporating accessibility and universal design for learning and promoting interactions between learners, instructors and content so that online students receive the same experience as students in face-to-face classes. During the height of the pandemic, she was part of a response team to assist with Continuity of Instruction efforts and helped design online versions of high-impact programs like SOAR. In her role, Cori collaborates with faculty and campus partners to create engaging content and interactions for learners. She can consult on and help develop best practices in course design, accessibility, selecting and implementing appropriate tools, maintaining instructor presence, creating an online community and providing effective feedback. She also helps facilitate the TeachOnline@UW “Plan and Design” and “Facilitation and Management” courses. Additionally, as a peer reviewer certified by Quality Matters, Cori is adept at evaluating courses and programs for quality assurance. Outside of work, Cori enjoys hiking in state parks, visiting supper clubs and planning road trips.
