Since 2017, Jim has been an instructional designer at UW–Madison, where he helps create online and blended learning courses in partnership with instructors across a variety of disciplines. In addition to his instructional design for academic courses, Jim has facilitated the TeachOnline@UW program, and worked with University Health Services to develop a number of their mental health and intervention trainings. His principles for learning experience design are transparency, accessibility, and experiential utility. Jim has an arts education background and earned his master’s degree from UW–Madison. His research was on performances of control, power and surveillance in networked groups, and production techniques using mobile interfaces and augmented reality, including interactive theater for youth. Prior to joining CTLM, he worked in a number of positions related to technology and education. This includes DoIT Academic Technology, UW DesignLab, and the Overture Center Arts OnStage program. He also created and led a number of themed interactive learning programs in public libraries and worked as an actor, dramaturg and tour manager for various theatrical productions around Wisconsin.
