Lauren has been an instructional designer with CTLM since 2022. She previously served as a teaching, learning, and technology specialist with the Wisconsin Collaboratory for Enhanced Learning (WisCEL) at UW-Madison, and as an academic technology specialist at University of Chicago’s Social Sciences Computing Services. Earlier in her career, she led staff and student training in burial excavation and bioarchaeological lab methods during multiple field seasons at the Anyang Archaeological Workstation in Henan Province, China.
Lauren enjoys working closely with instructors, learning what motivates their passion for their field, and collaborating to ensure that this enthusiasm is a part of a course’s design. She specializes in designing engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning experiences that leverage campus-supported tools and technologies. With over a decade of experience in successful grant writing, she brings a strategic approach to instructional design by emphasizing backward design and the use of plain language to craft purposeful and effective resources.
Lauren holds bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Chinese from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and earned her MA and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. Outside of work, she enjoys learning how to fix up her old house with her wife and kids, playing music, biking and running on the trails of Southern Wisconsin, and staying current with the latest in archaeology.
