Biography
Dr. Dan Pell is a teaching and learning consultant with a passionate commitment to making higher education fairer, more accessible, and more effective for all. As a consultant, Dan supports the process of designing and implementing courses and curricula, thereby building the capacity of academic programs to deliver high-quality, inclusive learning experiences. He builds partnerships with other educators and applies his skills and experience to help improve teaching practices through creative design and delivery of active learning and culturally responsive, student-centered instruction. Dan’s work is grounded in two decades of experience as a teacher of English language and writing, with particular emphasis on language assessment and teacher training. He received his doctorate in English from Ulster University in Northern Ireland in 2001. Prior to joining UW-Madison in 2010, Dan taught and trained teachers in Morocco, China, India, and the United Kingdom. He is also active in the Teaching Academy at UW-Madison, an organization which promotes, recognizes, and supports excellence in teaching and learning. The greatest joys of Dan’s work are the incredible diversity of people he has worked with, both as students and as colleagues, and seeing how his work empowers others to achieve greater success.
